River high though falling; some colour. Weather very mild, mostly cloudy. Fished steadily during the afternoon with all barbel in about the 5 to 6 lb range on pellet. They seemed to move on after about 4.30 and the chub took over with 2 caught and several missed bites. A very good late season session.

River was running hard but fishable. Walked over the hill (not for the feint, or more to the point, weak hearted) to the woods. Because the river was up and it was still raining the swims in the woods were difficult and dangerous (very slippy narrow path), so started just into the woods. Nothing for a couple of hours. Moved to the first swim before the woods which although running hard had a visible "crease" 15 yards out. Fished pellet/feeder to start (one chub) then switched to maggot feeder as the colour dropped out of the water (although levels didn't drop). Two barbel (5lb2oz and 5lb8oz) and another chub (and a lost fish) between 12:30 and 4pm then bites stopped. Went back to pellet/feeder until dark but no further bites. Packed up at 6pm and slogged back to the car. Another great day on a great beat.

A few days mild weather tempted me back to the Wye. Found the river still falling slowly with a bit of colour. A few hours fishing from midday produced fish until about 4.00 pm, when they switched off. Barbel in the range from about 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 lbs, with a much bigger fish, quite possibly a "double" lost when the hook straightened. Chub up to just over 4 lb. A lovely day on the river - hope to get out again before the end of the season.

Two low double figure pike caught on deadbait and lure, River low with a slight tinge of colour, rain for much of the day. There was a lot of salmon crashing about and a few were seen swimming around in the slacks.

Turned up today with the temperature gauge on the car showing 0 degrees, so we knew we were in for a hard time, water level was down about 12 to 18 inches on the last time we fished here, so we decided to walk the stretch looking for deeper water, I think that if we found a pool that resembled an abyss it wouldn't of helped us today, the two of us never had a tap all day. The highlight was a salmon jumping (twice) and a kingfisher making a couple of appearances.
ps. Please heed the WUF's warning about the wooded area, it is quite treacherous in places !
