First time for us on here - experimental to see if this was a viable proposition after a days work. We arrived at about 9.15pm to a blizzard spinner fall - the trout were going potty!
But we refused to be distracted and marched down to Crewil pool - the access on this beat is very easy with excellent stiles provided. There is a very nice hut at Crewil with an outside table so we set up there with our snap for the night. Fish were showing so the omens were good.
We fished two set ups - a floating line with 2 smaller flies - size 8 dunkeld on the point and size 10 Alexandra on a dropper - the tiddlers had fun chasing the latter. A size 6 silver stoat on a clear sink tip was on the other rod - can't imagine you want a full sinking line in these conditions.
Early knocks didn't convert but then a fish hammered the dunkeld at midnight - turned out to be a nice fresh sewin of about 17" - pound and half or so, safely returned. And then that was it! Fish continued to show although temperatures plummeted as morning approached so we called it a day.
Two very friendly club members materialised out of the night and were very helpful with advice. Thank you gentlemen! I think we will be back....

No fish taken, despite excellent conditions, perhaps reflecting a lack of expertise and knowledge!

Few sea trout seen on main beat, mainly in Crewil Pool. One decent trout caught downstream of Crewil and one substantial pull in the same area. Guiding and advice from Gavin Perry on fly tactics for sea trout was very helpful.

Fished Crewil Pool, from 11.30am until 5.00pm. 1 small trout and 1 Salmon Parr. The river was coloured from overnight rains on Friday and Saturday so no rises until 5.30pm as we were leaving. Saw one Goosander. River bed was very brown and stones covered with a "fur", I fished this area 30 years ago and have not been back since but can't remember the river looking so brown and not through the a muddiness of flood water but a tint of brown as if from Iron Ore. Sat and had lunch at the bench owned by Llangadog AA overlooking the pool, it was absolutely breathtaking so the lack of fish didn't taint the day. Saw one Grilse or Sea Trout - bright silver, probably about the 3-4 pound mark.
