The fishing was tough with high pressure moving in from the east, but a very enjoyable day in beautiful countryside. Best graying just over 1lb, all fish on trotted maggot.

A tough but quite productive day on this beautiful beat. The fish seemed to be concentrated in the deep fast pools, not surprising given the low and clear conditions. A tricky morning where I took 4 fish using 4 different method, french nymph took the first and then I noticed regularly rising fish and switched to dry fly which produced another. Still rising but no more so switched to an emerger, immediate success, cracked it i thought. Nope no more, fish still rising so tried a spider, once again immediate success but no more. Very frustrating as I could clearly see fish rising from deep to small olives but I couldn't seem to crack the code. Eventually the rises petered out and I moved on to the downstream beat.
I found the rest of the fish here but again concentrated in a single pool, where there was otter spraint on the bank, however none of the fish I took were in any way damaged, which leads me to believe they can exist side by side. All the grayling here were taken on a beaded nymph apart from the OOS Brownie which hammered a greenwells spider on the dropper. Finished fishing about 5 when the much needed rain seemed to have set in. The beat looked splendid in its Autumnal colours, but will definitely benefit from a good flood and flush through.

First visit to this beat, set in a lovely, steep sided valley. All the beat details and notes spot on and helpful.
Hard to tell from the gauge/webcam what is a normal level but on the day, water level seemed low. Water clarity not bad, a touch hazy and a reasonable amount of slimy weed in some stretches.
Didn't have much luck, only 2 Grayling caught, struggled to find the fish. Some signs of surface feeding between 11am-1pm but had no luck with dries. Tried nymphs, both fish caught on nymphs.
With water low, seems like a beat where you have work on getting to the right spots and be creative - so would suit shorter rod set up. Can't decide whether it was just one of those days or my river craft exposed....probably the latter!

A good day. Water was low and pretty clear. Sunny periods and warm. Quite a bit of slimy green algae. But none the less my colleague ( there were two of us) hooked 10 grayling either 6 to hand, and I managed 6 with four to hand. 3 or 4 decent fish of around 12 inches and all beautifully marked. Good to see the WUF staff checking out the weir.

After days of low pressure it was a difficult day . There was nothing moving or rising.
Caught 2 small Grayling on a red tag nymph near the end of the session.

Overcast, slight drizzle. River low and perfectly clear. Fish rising, but not tempted by any of my many wet and dry fly offerings! Netted one salmon parr below the bridge on an olive dun.
