1 heavy salmon lost in Biblins Run when cast snapped. 1 x small brown trout caught.

Blank. Seven Sisters seemed quiet today. The one fish seen to move, in Martin's Pool, turned out to be a 32 inch well-mended kelt which dutifully took a Rapala put across its nose.
Trout anglers might be interested to know the grannom is up. While chatting with a rod from Stafford, we saw a fair old hatch of the little sedges taking place.

Not a wiff of a fish.... despite a big Grannom hatch going on for most of the day only saw one small trout show. The river looked in good shape, and scenary beautiful, but there was just a strange lack of life in the water. Could be the cold wind gusting up the valley, bringing the temperatures down after a balmy Saturday, but it was not to be.

We fished the Seven Sisters beat on April 19th. We took advantage of the 3 for 2 and think this was great value.
We landed and released a 23lb fresh springer (39 inches)on a red flying c and lost another of similiar size right at the bank.
We only covered a small section of the beat and where as some of the bank was unfishable, it all looked like really attractive water. Some of the bottom pools where we fished had nice access points.
We saw numerous other fish on the day and can't believe that we didn't actually catch more.
We stayed at the Royal Lodge Hotel which is just yards away from the start of the beat. The hotel and staff were great and the general manager of the hotel Graham who is also attached to the beat showed us the beat the evening before. This was a great help and we knew exactly where we were going from we woke in the morning.
All in all a great day out and looking forward to getting back soon.

1 Salmon

First time on this beat-clearly has lots of potential.
Around 1.4 on the EA Redbrook gauge, falling and clearing.
Despite being very well taught a new cast (to me)-a circle cast, many of the pools were difficult to cover. Judicious use of a pole saw would help a lot. I had got half way down the Slaughter Crib when a fish showed behind me- a quick manouvre upstream brought a 12lb Salmon. It took a heavy red Francis on a fast sink tip.

No fish caught or seen. The river was running a little too high for wading and most of the pools had very little definition at that height and add to this a strong westerly blowing straight down the river made for some tricky casting.

Hooked one on very first cast (in neck of Smoke House Pool), at rod tip, which fell off almost immediately and that, sadly, was that.

A fishless but enjoyable day. It felt like the water was still a few inches too high and all the 4 fish seen appeared to be travelling. The beat has some 1st class fly water, plenty of holding water and has obvious potential. There is more than enough water to keep 4 rods entertained for a day. Wading the salmon rock under the shadow of the Severn Sisters was a stunning experience.

Blank as far as springers were concerned, but an interesting and pleasant day all the same. 2 x very well mended kelts, both at 34 inches, taken by spinning - if I read the map correctly - Smoke House and Four Oaks pools, plus several hefty trout at the bottom end. Fresh salmon were seen moving in a number of places including at least one twenty. There is a lot to learn about this beat, which hasn't been fished seriously for salmon for a long time.
