The river looked promising with a mist hanging on the water, and with the Llanstephan gauge at about 1' it seemed a perfect height for salmon fishing. Regrettably, I didn't see or touch a fish all day but I did see a pair of mink, several kingfishers and yellow wagtails. I got to know the beat better and found a very pleasant fly run at Salmon Rock that I've not been able to find before. Not catching didn't spoil the day, in fact it was a pleasure just being there.

Didn't quite make it for a salmon (although I learned from other rods this beat had three yesterday). Instead, a nodding acquaintance handshake by Botcher's Rock and a fish lost after a couple of minutes in Camp Run. Both these early in the day. At this water level (0.58 at Lydbrook), there is a huge amount of fly water available once the suspension bridge is crossed - from Slaughter Crib right round the corner and well on the way to Seven Sisters Rocks are a succession of accessible pools. A glorious autumn day after a chilly and misty start. I fished the owner's rod, for which many thanks.

Fished with one friend. Saw one running fish and moved another one to the fly, or at least spooked it with the line ! No pulls, but a beautiful day in the Autumn sunshine.

Area:Lower Wye
Beat:Lower Symonds Yat
Fishing:Salmon
No. of Anglers:2
Fishing for Salmon but none caught or seen, one chub half pound two smaller, local accommodation very good at the Saracens Head. The only disappointment was there were several salmon pools marked on the beat map but only a few accessible due to overgrowth.

Area:Lower Wye
Beat:Lower Symonds Yat
Fishing:Salmon
No. of Anglers:2
No salmon caught. Red fish seen jumping am. Conditions were good; clearing water and river falling. Couple of fish seen splashing up (running?) the pools by the foot bridge. No chases or takes on fly or spinner.
One unidentifiable fish caught on spinner. Like a Chubb but with translucent face and tuna type tail. Course fishermen shown but they could not identify it either. If you want to see photos of that fish please send an email address you want them sent to. All fish released.
Sorry about delay getting back to you but I was locked out of my email.

Nice height (1' on Fownhope gauge) but water still too coloured after recent small rise. Plenty of walkers and canoeists about.
