A lovely setting, but a very warm day and no significant hatch resulted in a slow day. 7 fish between us, nothing of note. We did however see 3 large trout from the top of the bank.

Fishing:Winter Grayling

The water levels were a little high and was running clear. Fishing was best in the morning with D.C. and D.B. catching four grayling and two brownies each on the middle section, ranging from tiddlers to 12". D.B. also added two salmon parr to his total. Nymphs and dries were all happily accepted throughout the morning.
G.C. fished the deep pool and above. Had a couple of rises to nymphs in the morning, and a rise from a grayling in the afternoon to a grey duster.
Overall, the day was most enjoyable on a lovely stretch of water.

A delightful day on one of the prettiest beats available via WUF. Water was still a bit low and clear but good fish were taken, mainly Grayling but also a cracking Wild Brownie.

Very low water (Erwood Gauge at 0)bright sun, hot. Small fish rising under trees. Managed to attach to few using small dries, very nearly had one 8" to hand before it pinged off. Superb location, easy access, easy wading on small pebbles in the low water. Several large chub cruising by.
Stayed at Kilsby - excellent as usual.

No trout, but four grayling. 2 small ones (6 inch) and 2 big ones (16-17 inch). Not easy fishing. I didn't see a rise all day ... except for one of the large fish which took my dry fly with enthusiasm. I had the guiding services of Andrew Cartwright ... excellent, I learned a lot.
One minor niggle. I could have done without the EA survey team wading in the river I'd paid to fish. Apparently they were doing work for WUF.
(WUF note - the EA are carrying out a Pearl mussel survey on the Irfon as part of our ISAC project. We have asked them to inform us before working on a particular stretch so that we can make anglers aware. Our apologies to anyone whose fishing has been affected.)
