Arrived 10.30am - this was my first fly fishing session on the Irfon and this particular beat was highly recommended by guide Gareth Lewis. Prior to fishing I was given plenty of help, advice and a more detailed map by Charles at The Hendre (big thanks). Prolific Grayling sport on the duo upstream (3 x 1.5 plus 5 at 2.5lb) taking a large Klinkhammer (size 12) on the surface. 2 x WBT upstream nymph (GRHE size 16) plus 3 x on Water Hen Blower size 16 (northern spider method - downstream) and 1 x WBT (1.5lb) on Klinkhammer (size 12), duo method again. It did not stop there because I also had 2 x Salmon (Parr) about 6 inches on a wet fly (size 16 black nymph with silver rib and bead). Finally, a sea trout (same method as for salmon) about 5in long - is that possible on this stretch? Fished until 7pm and had a wonderful day of sport. Weather was showery (heavy at times) with some sunny spells, low wind and almost perfect conditions. Wading was easy and never got above waist height. Fish caught along the first 1.5 mile stretch upstream from the Old Church (which is worth a quick look inside). This was my first catch of Salmon, Sea Trout and Grayling and all were in perfect condition.. Want to return for another session soon but realistically not until next season :(

Lovely days fishing, no sign of the Armageddon forecast from the telly, breezy and bright but none of the promised showers. Much cooler than during the week.
Caught consistently through the day on small nymphs, (pheasant tails), and dries, Klinkhammer and small CDC olive. Fished some of the streamer deeper water with heavier jigs and bugs and tended to account for the better fish.
A good number of trout and grayling to a pound and a half.
Lots of gnat about during the day and plenty of sedge around in the evening, though generally didn’t see many fish rising.

Had a nice day on the river. Conditions were good and there was a good sedge hatch throughout most of the day. Fish were rising every now and again. Lovely stretch of water. Most fish caught were predominantly grayling but also caught the odd brownie. In total for the 2 rods that day, we had 26 grayling and 4 brown trout.

6 or 7 Small WBT and 4 or 5 grayling, two of which in the 14-16inch range. Most taken on an LT Klink, with a couple falling to upstream nymph (HE) when the rain came in at around 3pm.

This was a cracking day - good water and weather and produced 42 fish to 4 rods, two thirds of which were grayling [biggest nearly 2lbs [MINE, MINE, MINE!!!!!!]on a black klinkhammer - much sport on dry/emerger stuff and using 'klink and dink'.

Lots of fly hatching mostly olives (I think), but not many fish rising (lots of oncers). Caught the fish on nymphs (pheasant tail, GRHE) and dries (red spinner pattern)

Fished this beat for grayling last winter and had a great couple of days. Always wanted to return in the summer months for some trout fishing. I fished with my father in law Steve Cox. We both hit into fish very early on fishing the Klink and Dink, i had 3 knocks and a fish to the net in the first ten mins. As the sun came over head it got a bit harder, but just meant we had to search the water for fish. We fished until 15:00 and had 6 fish between us.

5 trouts - nymph fishing

A lovely relaxed day on a fascinating stretch of water. Apart from being a little cooler than we'd hoped little breeze and overcast conditions raised expectations. Fish were rising sporadically but more consistently after lunch. Personally I landed 2 good grayling and a fine trout all in the 12oz to pound and a half range while others in the party fared similarly and we all had stories of numerous missed takes. Pockets of rising fish took small dries enthusiastically when located and the deeper sections responded to sparse nymphs fished slowly.

3 Fish in total. Two were believed to be sewin because they looked completely silver and were 14 an 16 inches long.
Some fish rising and a some insect life seen on the water.
