Two small 10 inch trout for me today, lost two others, mainly due to poor line control. Weather was cloudy with sunny intervals and little wind, river running a little coloured and fast. A difficult day, as the only fish I found were in some very fast water, wading was tough due to to the very strong flow. I had to use very heavy nymphs to get down fast enough, even so the drifts were very short.

High water levels, bank overgrown. Very few opportunities to get a cast in. Bit disappointing.

All fish caught on nymphs and all around the 1lb mark. First time here and fished the middle part of the beat. The bottom end was to deep given the water levels. Hatch of flies around 1.30pm but rises were sporadic. Will come back to explore the top half of the beat.

Very hard going with the water levels up and a heavy flow.
Managed 2 fish in the first 2 casts of the season which was nice! Tough going after that. Fish all taken on nymphs.
12-14” fish.

Quite tough today, downstream breeze, pretty cold and not much hatching, although some caddis did get going in the afternoon. A few fish reacted to those which saved the day - two trout on caddis pattern nymphs 12 and 8", and also a salmon parr of 7" on a CDC and Elk . Beautiful stretch of river - lots of kingfisher, grey wagtail and dipper activity, and had one of the latter wading up a riffle underwater ahead of me at one point! Access to a few of the sections is pretty tricky at the moment down a steep and very overgrown bank. A ladder in one or two spots would really help especially for older/less mobile anglers, but then I did really love the wild character of this beat - thanks again for a lovely day!

Getting down to the river is a bit of a nightmare on this beat. Lovely water though once you’ve scrambled through the undergrowth! A 2 pounder saved the evening.
