Super low water had me stuck on the upper pool close to the island all day long . I managed to land 10 fish , best one around a pound , french leader and duo worked for me.

Unfortunately another nil return - there was very little activity all day from fish or insect, although I did spot what I think was a solitary Yellow May dun. There is lovely water toward the top of the beat, where to my surprise I lost a fish on a Prince Nymph put on in desperation at the end of the day. The lower end of the beat also has good water, although the banks require a lot of clearing. A great day.

An interesting stretch of water, I can imagine a salmon holding in the top pool where the split in the water converges and runs the length of the walkway to the end croys. Not sure about the rest of it however. Did not see a single fish of any kind although there was fly life about. Some pool notes would be helpful if there is any Intel out there somewhere.

All trout took dropper aqua baetis size 16 jig with 3mm tungsten bead not a touch on the point size 18 2mm hares ear. average size was twelve inches with one at 13 and one at 15 inches. oh and one at four inches lol. All bar two came from the streamy water around and above the island to french nymphing .. sadly for me the rest of the beat two thirds of it was not to my liking more suited for the salmon fishing. very pricey for the trout fishing. No salmon seen, a little to early for the Usk

A cold downstream wind made the fishing quite tough but I managed a few on spiders (Waterhen Bloa and Dark Moorgame), and at lunchtime there was a decent hatch of LDO's, and I found a few fish rising in the pool at the top of the beat. They readily took a size 14 CDC Dun. Nothing bigger than a pound but a pretty decent haul for the day. The gauge was about 10 inches at Glanusk which is still a little high for this beat in terms of wading for trout fishing. Maybe this is a better option for lower water conditions. On the whole it feels like this beat could use a bit of TLC. The access isn't great and the walkway is falling apart with bits of stray barbed wire here and there which took a fancy to my new waders! Perhaps this is a good salmon beat but I would say that this beat struggles to justify its high price tag for the trout fishing when compared with other WUF beats. That said, I'm sure that the beat holds some excellent trout and if you run into one or two lunkers, it makes the price easier to accept.
