Very difficult day for a River Wye novice especially running so high - not surprising the day after a Hurricane but still trying for my first Barbel.
Will be back next year to try again.

Stayed at Red Lion in Madley - cheap and cheerful with good big breakfasts and he even made us some sandwiches for the day free of charge.
Much colder than the previous day with high winds. River was slightly lower than the previous day. Fishing very slow.

River was coming down but only just within banks. Both fished with hair rigged pellet/boilie with 4mm pellets in PVA bags.
Large dead Barbel of 7/8lbs in one swim that had obviously been taken by an otter.

Very low river conditions and bright sunshine made for a difficult day. Baited various spots and moved around the beat trying to locate fish. Ended up fishing the deepest spots we could find with feeders and at about 5pm managed a 6lb barbel followed by a smaller barbel and about a 3lb chub just before dusk. Nice beat but tough conditions made for a slow day.

Tough day on a low river which was clear. 1 barbell, a lovely fish of approx. 8lb. 3 chub from 2lb to 4lb. A nice beat. It's a bit of a walk and the banks are a bit wild.

River very low. 2 barbel to 7.5lb and a big fat chub just over 5lb, all on pellet. Some nice perch on spinner to 2lb. Sunday was too bright. Managed 1 barbel and some more perch spinning again. River needs rain.

Bit of a grueller due to low water conditions - also fell foul of the snaggy conditions on the main river bend (lost alot of gear). 2 chub very early on then nothing throughout the day. Then as dusk fell the river came to life!!! Critically balanced pellet on a long hook link did the main damage, to both feeder and straight lead tactics. Utilisation of the 1 hour after darkness was absolutely vital to our (limited) success. What an absolutely stunnning beat, which will only increase in beauty as the autumn wears on.
3 Barbel, 4 Chub
