What a lovely stretch of river. Very picturesque. Nice easy driving access around the field too. I was expecting a very low and clear river, which it was, so Chub were the target. I float fished and rolled meat on various swims, wading around. I caught 2 clonking Chub on the rolled meat plus 10 chublets on the float. I settled into a swim opposite the Weir gardens for the evening and had 11 more big Chub up to 5lb and managed a lucky 6lb Barbel which was in immaculate condition. Considering the conditions I was very happy with the action. Really enjoyed fishing here, hope to be back when the Wye has a bit more on. Had to leave around 8:30pm as I had a flat tyre, didn't want to be stuck at dusk fumbling around, lucky I had a pump.

The river was perfect and the weather part cloud and sun. 4 rods fishing caught plenty of chub between 2lb and 5lb. using meat and pellet, Single Barbel landed, a nice fish of 9lb 2oz on meat. There were a lot of canoes, but they were respectful and polite.

A tough day on very low water. 2 Chub for me and 2 eels for my colleague. Water quality was at least free of algae but not many other positives on this occasion.

River was very low and in need of the rain that came the days after. Locating the barbel was fairly difficult but we managed one each and several chub. One chub was over 6lb and resulted in a PB. Barbel were 8.5lb and 9lb. Used to seeing more small barbel (3-5lb)and often have over 5 in a day on the wye but I should think they were in deeper areas and waiting for a bit of colour/flow back in the water. Quality of the fish was amazing as always. Lots of canoes but traffic decreased around dinner time and fishing switched on more.

First visit to this beat in the 9 years we've been coming. More than enough good swims, especially at low water levels with a nice beach area. Plenty of fun with the chub on pellet feeder tactics, large and small up to 4lb. Two lost fish which might have been barbel but some of the chub bites were so unusually savage that they too might have been chub.
But beware this is a VERY snaggy beat, one of the most expensive we've tried!
7 Chub
